This photograph is of a painting that I completed earlier this year, the second in a series of four watercolours entitled ‘Machines and Me’. In all four pictures the ‘machines’ are dominant with the human figures bemused or confused by the paraphernalia around them. This one is set in an office. The others are set in a hospital, a building site, and at a crossroads with traffic. They were all exhibited in Dorset at the Milton Abbas Art Group’s Summer Exhibition from 17th until 26th July. I’m considering undertaking another series of paintings from October onwards – this time larger and in acrylic, entitled Nature and Us. Nature is something that we cannot control – but unlike machines that sometimes take over our lives, the effects are more beneficial and often give us a sense of freedom. I have them all sketched out in my head, and I shall relish doing them.
