View from my bed, in Dorset at 8am on 1st January 2025.
A few fanciful thoughts: The bare trees symbolise the falling of the dead leaves and the ephemera of 2024. The Viburnham winter flowering shrub with its pink flowers demonstrate the enduring, hardy, natural world. The reflection of the light from the table lamp and the wierd ‘eye’ lights in the glass show the warmth of life and the often distorted vision of humans.
The teddy bear brings in childhood and childish things. The two ‘famille verte’ ginger jars show creativity and art. The two green shoots remind us of spring and renewal, and the chair inside the room (or my bed from where I took the photo) is a place from where we can watch life through a glass darkly. I wish you all a reflective and restorative new year.
